JOB DESCRIPTION

This is semi-skilled preventative maintenance work in the Public Works Truck Wash Facility maintaining proper water chemistry control and mechanical work in maintaining autos, trucks, mowers, pumps, fire and rescue vehicles, small gas engines and other associated equipment.  A Wash Rack Operator/Service Technician does the preventative maintenance on the industrial wash water treatment system installed at the Public Works Truck Wash Facility.


Training and Experience

Minimum Experience: High School graduation and one (1) year journeyman level experience in the field of automotive mechanics, or any equivalent combination of training and experience.


Professional Licenses/mandatory requirements

Possession of a valid Florida Driver’s License required.

SALARY: $16.46 per hour plus benefits

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

*Some knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the automotive mechanic trade

*Ability to learn routine vehicle maintenance procedures

*Ability to operate vehicles and equipment common to repair orders

*Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to follow automotive diagrams

*Skill in the use of tools, machines and testing instruments of the trade


Essential Functions

Daily Maintenance of the industrial wash water treatment system.  In accordance with established procedures. Weekly Maintenance of the industrial wash water treatment system.  In accordance with established procedures.  Monthly Maintenance of the industrial wash water treatment system.   In accordance with established procedures.  As required maintenance of the industrial wash water treatment system biannually.  In accordance with established procedures.  Winterizing the industrial wash water treatment system.  In accordance with established procedures.  Performs routine oil changes and grease jobs on vehicles and maintains records of service.  Makes road calls and performs minor repairs such as changing/repair of tires.  Performs general shop maintenance such as cleaning and trash removal.

Work Environment

Shop conditions with disagreeable elements or factors such as heat, cold, dampness, fumes, dust, noise, or vibrations.  Exposure to dirty, oily, greasy elements.  Works inside and outside shop area.  In or with moving objects or vehicles.  Various chemicals necessary in controlling the wastewater quality of the Truck Wash Facility.


Essential Physical Skills/Demands

Will use both hands simultaneously while standing or sitting, requires pushing, pulling, twisting, bending and climbing; heavy lifting and carrying in excess of fifty (50) pounds.  Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.  Acceptable eyesight and hearing (with or without correction) to safely perform the essential functions.  Fast manipulative skill in almost continuous use of machine or mechanical equipment.  Reaching pulling, walking, standing on concrete floors, kneeling, bending, stooping and climbing into and under equipment.  Continuous standing, walking, or difficult working positions.  Working with average or heavy weight materials and supplies.
