JOB DESCRIPTION
This is highly skilled work installing and maintaining electronic traffic control devises, traffic counting devices, and other traffic related equipment.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Experience: High School education or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma plus three (3) years working with electronic and electrical work. Experience in commercial wiring, power distribution (power lines) or telecommunication network. Computer experience is required.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSES/MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License. Must obtain I.M.S.A. Traffic Signal Technician Level I Traffic Signal Technician Certification and State of Florida Temporary Traffic Control Intermediate Certificate within one (1) year from date of hire.
SCHEDULE: NON-TRADITIONAL FULL-TIME, ON-CALL DUTY, OCCASIONAL OVERTIME
SALARY: $21.33 per hour plus benefits

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of operations and repairs of traffic signals
Knowledge of traffic work zone safety
Knowledge of high voltage and low voltage circuitry hazards and safety procedures
Ability to read blue prints and trace electrical circuits
Ability to operate and work under stress and pressure
Skill with high voltage with power on or off in safety
Skill in correcting electric problems without supervision
Skill in correcting or modifying problems or equipment on the job site
Skill in correcting the problem in the shortest and safest manner
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
This is highly skilled technical work installing, maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing signal system equipment. This includes traffic signal controllers, malfunction management units, GPS or radio-based pre-emption systems, inductive loops, various video detection systems, fiber optic interface devices, Ethernet switches, cellular routers, traffic monitoring cameras, school zone programmable clocks and advanced flashing beacons. Assists in responding to all traffic signal complaints and trouble calls received, assesses situation, troubleshoots, and takes appropriate corrective action, under supervision. Assists in constructing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground utilities associated with signal equipment using bucket trucks, aerial platform trucks and trenching equipment. Assists in maintaining and updating multiple databases and traffic signal systems, as well as engineering and electrical blueprints, legal and inventory documents. Assists in performing preventative maintenance on traffic signals, checks operation, replaces LED indicators, cleans cabinets and documents equipment condition. Assist in the installation and maintenance of signs throughout the County using various types of post hole diggers, augers, and drivers. Must be able to place barricade and other types of safety equipment. Paints cross walks, turn-arrows and striping on County roads. Clean and maintain shop grounds. Assist in the maintenance and repair of shop equipment.
NON -ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs other related work as assigned. Responsible for maintaining the signal/sign shop and keeping materials, supplies, and equipment in good order.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works inside and outside in various types of weather. Hazardous conditions such as working on active roadway, with electricity, heights up to fifty (50) feet, and around power lines, darkness, noise, electricity, hazardous surfaces, slippery and uneven surfaces.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS/DEMANDS
Will use both hands simultaneously while standing or sitting, requires constant pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, and climbing; frequent lifting of ten (10) to fifty (50) pounds. Ability to work at heights up to fifty (50) feet. Position requires oral and written communications, adequate eyesight to include normal color vision and hearing to safely perform these activities.
