JOB DESCRIPTION

This position performs skilled work in the changing and repairing of tires on automotive, construction and maintenance equipment. Employees in this position repair tires and perform mechanical repairs and service work on trucks, tractors, loaders, road graders and a wide variety of other construction and maintenance equipment.

Training and Experience

High School education is preferred and two years’ experience in vehicle operation and tire repair or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

professional Licenses/mandatory requirements

Possession of a valid Florida CDL Class B Driver’s License required.

SALARY: $ 16.46 per hour plus benefits

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of the practices applied to the safe and skillful operation and care of vehicles and tire repair equipment
  • Ability to learn, understand and abide by all traffic laws and county regulations pertaining to the safe operation of vehicles and equipment
  • Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate with fellow employees and the general public
  • Ability to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed and considering larger  organization team goals rather than individual concerns

Essential Functions

  • Operates a tire service truck, changes and repairs tires in the field and at the repair shop; services trucks and equipment including greasing  and lubing equipment, replacing batteries, worn belts and hoses
  • Prepares daily records and reports on work accomplished
  • Must visually identify hazards to safe operation of problem areas and report or correct them
  • Work is performed independently in accordance with definite instructions from a supervisor who reviews work through observation for compliance with work schedules and instructions
  • Performs skilled manual labor in conjunction with job assignments and operate tire changing equipment and various hand tools
  • Required to work during a local declared state of emergency

Work Environment

Responsible for the satisfactory and safe operation of vehicles and equipment under all types of weather conditions on paved and dirt roads. Majority of tasks are performed outdoors and very frequently in extreme weather conditions. Subjected to insects, noxious fumes and constant noise.

Essential Physical Skills/Demands

Will use both hands simultaneously while standing or sitting, requires constant pushing, pulling, twisting, bending and climbing; frequent lifting of ten (10) to fifty (50) pounds, position requires oral and written communication; involves adequate eyesight and hearing to safely perform these functions.
