JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible work involving the coordinating, ordering, preparation and placement of traffic/informational type signs throughout the County. Works independently, conferring with the Sign Shop Foreman on new assignments or difficult problems.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalency and two (2) years’ experience in public works or related activities. Comparable amounts of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
PROFESSIONAL LICENSES/MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Florida driver’s license.
SALARY: $17.04 per hour plus benefits

POSITION: SIGN SHOP TECHNICIAN II LOCATION: PUBLIC WORKS
PAY GRADE: 110 EXEMPTION STATUS: NON-EXEMPT
SCHEDULE: TRADITIONAL FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS PER WEEK, MONDAY - FRIDAY, OCCASIONAL OVERTIME

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Knowledge of the tools and types of equipment needed for placement of signs
• Knowledge and understanding of State of Florida Uniform Sign and Traffic Code
• Ability to read and follow written and oral instructions
• Ability to establish effective working relationship with other employees, department heads and the general public
• Ability to direct other employees on placement of signs when necessary
• Skill in the care and use of tools, equipment and materials of the Sign Shop
• Knowledge of the geography of the County
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Determines replacement or repair to signage throughout the County by observation through touring the County
• Responds to work orders regarding special signage
• Prices and orders necessary signs for the safety and operations of County streets and parks
• Assist in preparation of substrate material for sign blanks by sizing blanks, shearing material to size, rounding corners, either by hand or machine
• Set up and punch mounting holes
• Set up and operate squeeze roller and apply sheeting to blanks using vacuum applicator
• Assist in operation of sanding machine when reclaiming material
• Assist in the manufacture of handmade signs by cutting letters and symbols and placing them on sign blanks for installation
• Lay out mileage and destination signs using established criteria for size and letter placement
• Unload scrap signs from trucks and separate usable blanks from scrap material and stack by size and thickness; unload new material and stack by size and thickness
• Build delineators, mesh construction flags and related items
• Assist in the installation and maintenance of signs throughout the County using various types of post hole diggers, augers and drivers
• Must be able to place barricades and other types of safety equipment
• Paints cross walks, turn-arrows and stripping on County roads
• Clean and maintain the shop grounds
• Assist in the maintenance and repair of shop equipment
• Required to work during a local declared state of emergency
NON -ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs related work as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works inside and outside in various types of weather. Darkness, noise, around electricity and hazardous surfaces, slippery and uneven surfaces, heights up to 45 feet and below ground level. Work may be performed without direct supervision. Responds to scenes after normal working hours i.e.; chemical and fuel spills, aircraft accidents, weather emergencies, etc.; which may include lengthy hours of standing as well as exposure to weather conditions.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS/DEMANDS
Will use both hands simultaneously while standing or sitting, requires constant pushing, pulling, twisting, bending and climbing; frequent lifting and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds. Position requires oral and written communications, also involves adequate eyesight and hearing to safely perform the essential functions.
