Traveling General Laborer with Desire to Excel


Traveling General Laborer performs a variety of physical site tasks and operates heavy equipment across multiple project locations. This role supports construction, infrastructure, and maintenance crews, frequently traveling to short- and long-term job sites and assisting with site preparation, material handling, traffic control, and equipment operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel to assigned job sites and perform general labor tasks: site cleanup, digging, grading, trenching, shoring, backfilling, and formwork support.
  • Assist equipment operators and supervisors with rigging, signaling, and spotter duties.
  • Load/unload materials and equipment, secure loads, and assist with material staging and inventory.
  • Perform traffic control and flagging as required for site safety and work zones.
  • Follow site safety plans, PPE requirements, and company/OSHA safety regulations; report hazards and incidents.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, fueling, and cleaning; report defects.
  • Follow directions from supervisors, complete assigned tasks on schedule, and assist other trades as needed.
  • Communicate site conditions, material needs, and job progress to supervisors.

Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years general construction labor experience.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred if role requires hauling or transporting equipment.
  • Able and willing to travel frequently and stay overnight as required.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong safety focus and ability to follow instruction and jobsite procedures.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy loads, work outdoors, climb, and stand for long periods.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment checks and minor troubleshooting.
  • Good communication, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to work in a team and adapt to varied work sites and tasks.

Travel & Work Conditions

  • Frequent travel between sites; overnight stays common depending on assignment duration.
  • Work in diverse weather and site conditions; exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
  • Schedule may include long hours, weekends, or shift work depending on project needs.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting/carrying 50+ lbs frequently, bending, kneeling, climbing, and extended standing.
  • Ability to operate foot/hand controls and maintain situational awareness around moving equipment.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly wage based on experience and certifications; travel pay, per diem, mileage or company-provided travel arrangements as applicable.
