JOB DESCRIPTION

This is unskilled and limited semi-skilled manual work in the performance of laboring tasks and a variety of construction and maintenance work. Work performed under direct supervision.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Experience: completion of the eighth (8th) grade and one (1) year experience in performing manual labor; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSES/MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

Valid Florida Driver’s License required.

SCHEDULE: TRADITIONAL FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS PER WEEK, MONDAY - FRIDAY, OCCASIONAL OVERTIME

SALARY: $15.00 per hour plus benefits

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of tools used in maintenance and construction work.

Knowledge of occupational hazards connected with laboring work.

Ability to perform manual labor.

Ability to learn methods of operating and maintaining equipment and tools.

Ability to follow, read and understand written and oral instructions.

Ability to complete daily work sheets accurately.

Skill in using hand tools.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Patches holes in road with asphalt or lime rock. Installs road signs. Clears trees, brush and vegetation from roadside. Removes and installs concrete. Loads and unloads heavy materials from trucks. Moves equipment and large bulky objects. Performs custodial duties. Flags traffic on roads under repair. Maintains grounds, rakes grass, waters plants, weeds flower beds, shapes hedges, trims trees, cuts grass, plants and fertilizes flowers, and digs ditches. May operate tractor-mower in mowing grass on right-of-way on temporary or training basis. Assist in the installation of information signs and barricades by driving standard pick-up truck at the road construction and/or maintenance project. Loads trash on truck, picks up boxes and other materials left by residents, unloads trash and other material. Performs repair to equipment.

NON -ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs related work as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Responsible for the satisfactory and safe operation of equipment under all types of weather conditions on rough ground. Ability to perform physical work related to the position. Work may be performed without direct supervision. Majority of tasks are performed outdoors and very frequently in extreme weather conditions. Subjected to insects, noxious fumes, and constant noise.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS/DEMANDS

Will use both hands simultaneously while standing or sitting. Requires constant pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, and climbing; frequent lifting of ten (10) to fifty (50) pounds. Position requires oral communications, also involves adequate eyesight and hearing to safely perform these activities.
