National Volunteer Week is held April 17-23 and encourages donating time to serving local communities. “Volunteering means connecting with our communities and learning more about the needs in our area,” said Jill Adams, Chief Executive Officer of HCA Florida Lake City Hospital. “I am proud of our staff for collecting over 390 pounds of food to donate to our local nonprofit organizations and give back to our community through selfless service.” During National Volunteer Week, HCA Florida Lake City Hospital leadership competed in the Grocery Store Wars for Charity. The event included collecting nonperishable foods to donate to Catholic Charities, a local nonprofit organization funded by United Way of Suwannee Valley. HCA Florida Lake City Hospital staff were given $100 per team and 30 minutes to collect and purchase as many items at possible at a local grocery store. In total, over 655 nonperishable food items were collected and donated. HCA Florida Lake City Hospital partnered with Catholic Charities to sort and pack the donated food to prepare it for the food bank. Hospital leadership recorded over 30 volunteer hours for their service during National Volunteer Week to benefit the communities of Columbia, Suwannee and Hamilton counties.
