Hello Theresa,

Happy New Year!

I hope you have had a wonderful holiday and are having a great start to the New Year. We hope this year will be better than last!

The new Economic Aid to Hard-Hit Small Businesses, Nonprofits and Venues Act:

On December 27, the President signed into law a supplemental appropriations bill that provides over $900 billion in additional COVID-19 relief, including $284 billion in added PPP funds for businesses and organizations needing either a first loan or a second round of funding. Major aspects of the original PPP guidelines will remain in place. Qualifying small businesses will continue to be eligible to receive funds under the PPP in the form of forgivable loans. Key changes in the new law include an additional application window for first-time borrowers and the opportunity for qualifying borrowers to receive a second PPP loan. Please check with your local lender for participation.

As final ruling continues, please visit the following sites for up-to-date information:

A new year means it time to renew your business on Sunbiz.org. If you are a registered business (not a DBA unless that is expiring) you will either get an email or a letter in the mail notifying you of the renewal fee. You have until May, but I recommend you get this taken care of as soon as possible. Be sure to make any changes in ownership, registered agent, address etc. when renewing.

Here are some dates to remember:

January 15 – Estimated taxes for 2020 due

January 31 – all W-2’s and 1099’s have to be mailed/delivered. (all 904 and 941’s for 2020 have to be filed)

March 15 – Returns for all C-Corp, S-Corp and Partnerships have to be filed or an extension filed.

April 15 – Estimated taxes for 2021 due

April 15 – Personal tax returns must be filed or extension filed.

May 1 – Renewal deadline on Sunbiz

I want to remind you we still have additional programs and consultants through CARES funding to assist with your business. If you would like to have a DISC assessment performed with all your employees to help work better together – let me know. We also have Sales professionals and Lean certified professionals to help with business processes. Not sure what you need? Call me and we can discuss.

One final note, the Florida SBDC Network annual survey will be going out this week. If you receive it, please take the time to complete it. Our state and federal funding is determined by the economic impact reported in the survey.

Here’s to you and a successful 2021. As always, I am a resource for you and here to help, just give me a call.

Sincerely,

Mark Yarick, Consultant

SBA Announces Ascent

Interactive Platform for Women Business Owners

SBA has announced Ascent, an interactive digital platform packed with resources women business owners need to set, and achieve, their business goals. Ascent is designed for the “missing middle” — growth-oriented women entrepreneurs who are beyond the start-up phase and already generating revenue yet looking to grow and scale. Most learning resources for business owners focus on either start-ups or mature businesses. Ascent is here to change that!

During these challenging times, SBA’s Ascent can also help you elevate your business with research-backed tips and strategies. Within Ascent, you can examine both internal (strengths and weaknesses) and external factors (opportunities and threats) that may have arisen because of COVID-19 to help you set up a comprehensive recovery strategy. And Ascent is a resource you can turn to again and again, as your business grows and your needs change.
